Is Intercape safe to use? ›

Intercape not only adheres to, but exceeds the stringent safety standards required by the passenger transport industry.

Go Greyhound. I have travelled intercape a 4 times and everytime the bus has broken down / been late / been overcrowded. It has been an awful experience with them. Intercape has got a reputation of always running late, so yes i will also support the idea of going with the Greyhound Bus Company.

SAVER tickets offer the best fares, however have limited availability and are more restrictive when it come to cancelling or changing a booking. Book early to take advantage of SAVER fares. FLEXI and FULL FLEXI tickets offer more flexibility, but are more expensive than SAVER tickets.

Generally, it's a good idea to book at least a few weeks in advance, but some companies offer discounts for booking even earlier than that. You also should take your timing and the seasons into consideration.

All coaches are equipped with toilets, air conditioning, individual reading lights, reclining seats, and on-board audio/video entertainment. Will there be enough time to order food at the stops? Yes, but make sure you order your meals before making use of the other facilities.

Each fare-paying passenger is permitted to take, free of charge and at own risk, two pieces of luggage, each of which does not exceed 80 cm x 60 cm x 30 cm in size, of a total mass not exceeding 20 kg for local South African routes, and 30 kg for cross-border routes.

They are equipped with amenities like comfortable seating, onboard restrooms, and sometimes WiFi, making them suitable for trips longer than three hours.

Intercape's baseline fare is almost identical to Greyhound's, with slight variations according to the type of coach used and the time of departure. One-way travel between Johannesburg and Cape Town with Greyhound costs between R400 and R500. Intercape's prices for the same route range from R380 to R520.

Greyhound allows a maximum of 2 pieces of regular baggage not exceeding 25kg in total per ticket holder. Excess baggage fees apply for luggage in excess of this allowance, either at the time of reservation or boarding.

On most of our services you can bring 2 checked-in bags of up to 25kg each, plus carry-on luggage, absolutely FREE.

There are a number of reputable bus companies that offer long-distance transport between the major cities and towns. They are extremely comfortable, clean and reliable. It's an option if you'd like to see more of the country by road but they aren't a cheaper option to flying.
